Those of you that know me, know I love to decorate and change decorations often. So I have been obsessed with this blog I found (from something on pinterest) called www.countrygirlhome.blogspot.com. This lady is AMAZING in the stuff she builds herself and her home is adorable. I really wish she could just come and decorate my entire house for me. So I saw this post where she made shutters as a decoration and I thought to myself "I can do that!!" Easy Peasy, right? So I decided my entry way need some freshening up so Friday I got to work.
This is what my entry looked like before.
I wanted to paint my new shutters so I called my parents and asked them if I could borrow their paint sprayer. Since my parents are not living at home at the moment (they are away on a service mission for our church), they told me the location of the sprayer and I headed over to find it. Along with the sprayer, I also found this saw that I thought would work great to cut the wood I needed for my shutters. So I borrowed it to (Dad I have your saw- I hope that's ok :) ).
So I haul my loot home set up my workstation and immediately run into a problem. I have no idea how to get the safety off of the dang saw. So I FaceTime my brother-in-law and walk around the saw and we finally figure out how to unlatch the safety so I can use the thing!
This is my little assistant. He had to have a saw too, but all he could find was the pizza cutter.
I got them built (after only 2 trips to home depot for the right screws. Which I think is a new Luke record) and now it was time to paint. I had this old mirror that was black, but I wanted it the new green color I had picked out. In my new favorite blog, she mentions a solution of vinegar and steel wool that you paint on your wood and it would age it. So I put it on my bare wood (which it aged it nicely) and then I painted it and I waited and waited and waited for something to happen. Nothing happened. So I immediately texted my sister and said "what did I do wrong???" She said maybe you need to stick it over the paint so I tried again and it worked. They looked sooooo good.
I also at the time decided to freshen up the paint in our house (Why do I look for ways to make my life harder??) So I picked out a color called Amber Yellow which is pretty similar to what is already on our walls. I decided I was just doing the entryway for right now so it didn't take long to get it painted and while I was waiting for the paint to dry I decided I would paint my front door the same color I was painting my shutters because I loved it so much.
I didn't take a before picture of the door, but just picture white. We also had gold doorknobs and hinges so I took those off and spray painted them black. Then when I went to put the door back together again last night I couldn't get the door handles back in. So once again I texted my brother-in-law and asked him if he could stop by the next day after work and help me.
*Let me just take a minute to tell y'all how much I love my brother-in-law. He has been married to my sister for almost 18 years and he is always coming to my rescue! Needless to say, he came and I was using the wrong screws to try and put it back together again. (Why is it always something so simple, that gives me the most trouble?)

While I was waiting for the paint to dry in the entry way and the door to dry. My "little assistant" accidentally went to open the door (that wasn't attached) and knocked it over into my freshly painted wall.
After 4 days and lots of "help" this is what my new entryway looks like (minus the patch I still have to repaint).
*About 30 seconds after I published this post everything came crashing down. The frame around my mirror broke, at least it wasn't the mirror. I don't need 7 years of bad luck I create enough of it on my own! I'm laughing to keep from crying. . .
